In Punta Ala, it’s hard to run out of trails to ride. Just open the local Trailforks map to see why: coloured lines criss-cross the landscape in every direction, while trail area icons keep appearing within just a few kilometres of each other.

Less than an hour from Punta Ala Trail Center, you can ride the flow trails of Massa Marittima, the natural and technical singletracks of Piombino, the sea-view descents around Cala Violina or the longer adventures through the Metalliferous Hills.

The terrain changes. The scenery changes. The riding style changes too. One day is all about flow and fun, the next is more technical and guided, more pedal-powered or simply more adventurous. Every area has its own personality and offers a completely different riding experience.

That’s why Punta Ala Trail Center has created a selection of guided tours across the best trails in the Maremma, choosing the most suitable terrain according to the group’s ability, the season and the riding style.

Whether it’s your first experience on a natural singletrack or a full-on enduro day, Punta Ala Trail Center takes care of everything: logistics, transfers, route planning and guiding. All you need to bring is the desire to ride. MTB and e-MTB rentals are also available if needed.

Riding with a guide means making the most of your time and heading straight to the very best each trail area has to offer.

The Punta Ala Trail Center guides ride these trails all year round. They know current trail conditions, the best trail combinations, and how to tailor each ride to the group’s level, the weather and the energy left in everyone’s legs.

The goal is simple: leave nothing to think about except having fun.

Here are the tours we’ve selected to showcase the many different sides of the Maremma. Each one has its own identity, terrain and riding style.

Flowing Massa. Curve. Flow. Repeat.

One berm after another, barely touching the brakes. This is the perfect tour for a day dedicated to nothing but riding.

Massa Marittima is one of Italy’s iconic trail riding destinations, and Flowing Massa takes you to some of its most enjoyable singletracks. After a 30-minute transfer, the ride starts in La Pesta and follows a fully pedal-powered route past Lake Accesa, one of the most beautiful spots in the Maremma hinterland. On warmer days, it’s well worth stopping for a swim before getting back on the bike.

From here, a solid half-day ride (4–5 hours) unfolds, with around 800 metres of climbing linking some of the area’s signature trails through an almost endless sequence of climbs and descents.

As the tour name suggests, flow is the main attraction: berms, rollers, natural compressions, changing rhythms and trails that immediately put a smile on your face.

An e-MTB is the ideal choice for squeezing in a few extra descents, but fit riders will have no trouble enjoying the tour on a traditional mountain bike.

One of the highlights is, of course, Canyon, one of the trails that helped put Massa Marittima on the map. Named after its distinctive terrain, it leaves almost every rider with exactly the same thought at the bottom: climb back up and do it again.

The perfect day to rack up laps, sharpen your riding skills and return to Punta Ala Trail Center with a smile—and still wishing for one last descent.

Piombino Etruskan Enduro. Natural Trails. Sea Views. Proper Riding.

Here, flow gives way to the wilder side of the Tuscan coast.

After a 40-minute transfer, you’ll reach the Gulf of Baratti, where a rewarding half-day ride (4–5 hours) begins through forests, rocky terrain, Mediterranean scrub and continuous sea views.

The climbs are just as much part of the experience. Ancient Etruscan roads, woodland trails and panoramic sections lead naturally into the next descent. The terrain is constantly changing, and so are the trails: fast, natural, technical and never predictable.

This is the most demanding tour offered by Punta Ala Trail Center, designed for riders who already feel confident on natural singletracks and are looking for a true enduro experience. An e-MTB helps manage the constant ups and downs, saving energy for what matters most: the descents.

Along the way you’ll ride trails such as Viperone, Poggio Tondo, 609 and Le Croste alle Canne, before reaching Cala San Quirico, one of the most spectacular sections of the entire route.

The ride finishes back at the Gulf of Baratti. On warmer days, a swim in the sea followed by a seafood lunch is the perfect way to wrap up the experience. And for anyone who isn’t ready to stop riding yet, the tour can easily be extended into a full-day adventure.

Ride Straight from the Punta Ala Trail Center

For a half-day ride, there’s no need to load the van—just roll straight out of the Punta Ala Trail Center.

From here you can pedal directly to Cala Violina, Monte Alma and Monte di Muro, an area that has recently benefited from extensive trail restoration and maintenance.

Natural singletracks, flowing lines, sea views and trails winding through Mediterranean woodland offer plenty of options for every riding style.

With an e-MTB it’s easy to link together multiple climbs and descents, while riders who simply want to maximise downhill time can take advantage of the shuttle service.

This is also where you’ll find our 5 Must-Ride Trails in Punta Ala, five trails that perfectly capture the character of the local trail network. If you prefer to explore on your own, our Komoot routes are the ideal starting point for building your own ride and discovering even more trails.

It’s the perfect option for getting to know Punta Ala, fitting in a shorter ride or simply adding a few more descents before enjoying an aperitivo at the PuntAla Camp & Resort beach bar.

Coming Soon Gavorrano & the Metalliferous Hills

The Punta Ala Trail Center guides are always working on new routes and fresh riding experiences.

One of the next additions will be a guided e-MTB tour through the Metalliferous Hills, combining trails, gravel roads and some of inland Tuscany’s most fascinating landmarks, including the Teatro delle Rocce and the Gavorrano Mining Park.

A different kind of ride, where great trails meet the discovery of the local landscape.

Where to start?

Good question.

Flowing Massa, Piombino, Cala Violina, Monte Alma, Gavorrano… every tour reveals a different side of the Maremma, and there’s really no wrong choice.

One thing is almost certain, though: before the first ride is over, you’ll already be thinking about the second.

And once that’s done… Elba Island and plenty more trails will still be waiting to be explored.

Choose your next ride and get in touch with Punta Ala Trail Center. We’ll take care of the rest.
