Punta Ala Trail Center boasts dozens upon dozens of trails, routes and itineraries for every rider. From family tours to experts-only downhills, there really is something for everyone.
Our trail map displays our favourite rides grouped into three categories: Discovery, Singletrack/Enduro and Enduro, which are colour-coded. This does not represent every trail in our area though – some we keep off the map and only use when we know they are in good condition, and singletrack riding is best with a guide to show you the many routes that are suitable for shorter-travel bikes. Also outside our area there are brilliant day trips available that we can organise to the isle of Elba, Massa Marrittima and Monte Amiata.

Directly outside our base at PuntAla Camp & Resort, the hills that rise from the shores of our coastline, that includes the famous Cala Violina beach, contain dozens of ride options. Singletrack snakes its way around the base of the mountains, undulating as it goes and providing a fun ride for all levels. While riding this trail, you will notice many others joining it from up the hill, and in some places (between Cala Violina parking and Puntone di Scarlino), trails dropping off from it. There are short, steep enduro stages that begin at the peaks, or flowing mellow cross-country trails that wind and work their way around the flatter wooded areas. One thing’s important though, and that’s that every ride ends at the sea! With such a maze of trails, a guide can really help you to make the most of your time and ensure you don’t get lost.
In the higher mountains behind our resort, at the far end of the Pian d’Alma (about a 20-minute pedal), is the base of many longer enduro stages and singletracks. This area of hills is densely forested, with two climb options – a long, winding fireroad or a steep firebreak that is preferable to push up – that access up to 10 trails (although we don’t mark them all on our map – you’ll have to ask in our shop or hire a guide!). These include the famous ‘Rocco’ Enduro World Series stage and a myriad of other fun, flowing trails. Some are severe and only recommended for experts with suitable bikes, some are wide, mellow and fun for all. Make sure to ask in our shop before heading out if you’re not sure. We offer a shuttle service that includes a small amount of pedalling to access the head of the trails.
Tirli is our 100% shuttle hill, but it’s still fun to pedal if you are happy climbing on open roads. We drop our customers off at the head of four varied and long (up to 15 minutes) trails that rocket off the top of the mountain incorporating fast sections, optional technical tests, flow and lots of fun times! Book a shuttle here.
In nearby Castiglione della Pescaia, a passionate team of local riders and shapers have created a number of brilliant trails that range from pedalling singletrack right the way to ‘Freeride’ (that’s the trail name). Here you can quickly go out for an hour’s ride and have a lot of fun, then end in the pretty streets for a coffee or pizza to refuel before heading back to the hills. It’s a good idea to ride with a guide here as the trails are quite spread out.
