The new season at Punta Ala Trail Center is just around the corner: less than a month to go before the early opening from April 24 to May 3, designed to welcome the energy of Unpaved Roads (April 25–26) — which this year reaches record numbers with over 500 participants, confirming itself as one of the most popular and well-loved spring cycling events in the Maremma — and to take advantage of the May 1st holiday, offering guests the perfect chance to enjoy their first rides of the season surrounded by nature, with all the services of PuntAla Camp & Resort.
The official opening of the campsite will follow on May 20, with activities running until October 3.
While waiting for the first riders to arrive, the Punta Ala Trail Center team has been working behind the scenes. Even before the gates open, the season begins in the woods: over the past weeks, our trail builders have been focusing on the trail network, carrying out targeted work to get everything ready for spring.
Our guides, Davide “Bibo” Brugnoli and Raffaele “Lele” Boetti, have been directly involved on the ground, carrying out work on the trail network that requires deep knowledge of the terrain, technical sensitivity, and great respect for the environment.
The work, which began in February and has just been completed, focused mainly on the Bandite di Scarlino area, between Monte Alma and Monte di Muro, among the most popular zones for our guided e-bike tours and highly appreciated by riders visiting the Maremma.
The focus was on cleaning and restoring the trails: removing vegetation, trimming branches and plants encroaching on the paths, raking the trail surface, and fixing sections damaged by winter rains.
A necessary step to bring the trails back to optimal conditions, making them smoother, more readable, and safer, while preserving their natural character.
Meanwhile, in the Cala Violina area, the Municipality of Scarlino has launched an important extraordinary maintenance project, carried out by a specialized company, involving trail cleaning and improvements across the entire area. Work is currently focused on Trail 3, but will progressively extend to the whole network.
The support of the Maremma Experience, led by President Enzo Riemma, has also been essential, together with the collaboration of the municipalities of Scarlino and Castiglione della Pescaia, and the Bandite di Scarlino, with whom Punta Ala Trail Center and PuntAla Camp & Resort continue to work in synergy to enhance the territory through cycling.
Work is also nearing completion on the Ciclovia Tirrenica between Punta Ala and Follonica, which runs right in front of the resort and the shop. The path, already almost finished in the Cala Violina area, features a brown eco-friendly asphalt surface, sound-absorbing and perfectly integrated into the landscape. Final testing and opening are expected in June.
With the trails ready and spring just around the corner, it’s the perfect time to get back in the saddle. Alongside a refreshed trail network, Punta Ala Trail Center is ready to welcome riders with a full range of services dedicated to biking.
Guided e-bike tours remain one of the best ways to explore the area, riding through sea views, forests, and singletrack alongside our guides. For those who prefer to ride independently, suggested routes are available via the official Komoot profile of Punta Ala Trail Center.
There are also updates on the rental side, with the arrival of new Giant and LIV bikes, available in MTB, gravel, and e-bike versions, ensuring high-performance and up-to-date equipment.
The countdown has begun: the trails are ready, and the season is about to start.
See you soon!
