Mountain bike season off to a flying start with this Enduro World Series qualifier event.
This weekend, 17-19 May 2019, the prestigious Superenduro
series returns to Punta Ala Trail Center for what promises to be one of the
most exciting mountain bike events in Italy this year.
It has been a number of years now since a national- or
international-level enduro race has visited Punta Ala Trail Center, but there
is a reason the resort was chosen to host the first ever Enduro World Series
race in 2013, and the superb range of trails and testing terrain has only grown
since that famous event.
The latest Superenduro follows Punta Ala Trail Center’s
tradition of bringing high-level racing to the Maremma region. For 2019, the
race serves as an Enduro World Series qualifier, one of only two in Italy this
year. Top-tier athletes wishing to step up from national to international level
will be heading to the Trail Center in order to battle it out for those vital
qualifying points.
Punta Ala Trail Center is already well-known for its broad
variety of trails that offer summit to shore rides for all abilities, and the
Superenduro will take in some classics as well as a freshly-uncovered treat.
The five timed enduro stages will be raced close to the beachside resort, with
the event village based at Punta Ala Trail Center HQ itself (at Puntala Camp
& Resort). Trails that will be used for race stages are: Le Api; Guardian;
Cinghiale; Kriminale, and Rock-Oh! If you know the area, you know that is a
formidable set of stages. The event promises to be spectacular for riders and
spectators alike.
Racers will pedal out from the resort into the nearby hills,
following singletrack and dirt roads as they make their way around a
pre-determined route, with the first timed stage just a few minutes’ walk or
ride from the beach.
Back at the resort, riders will be able to make use of the
fantastic facilities, including paddle boarding, pumptracks (including a
brand-new pumptrack for 2019), outdoor cinema, treetop rope course, daily yoga
sessions and much more.
On-site supermarket and restaurants mean there is no need to
leave the beach, but if friends, family and spectators wish to head out into
the hills to follow the racing or discover new trails, they can rent a bike
from the fantastic range of Giant Bicycles at the Bike Center shop.
